Hyman Fine Arts Center Gallery, Francis Marion University, Florence, SC, USA
This installation played with the boundaries between inside and outside by extending from the windows of the gallery space and stretching to reach around an exterior column of the gallery building.
All iterations of the “Rain Cloud” series of installations utilise the recognizable form of the umbrella as a conceptual reference to shelter and as a visual means to allow a wide audience to find a “way in” to the work. Using such ubiquitous objects also celebrates the significance of community. Individually beautiful but fragile, once combined these simple forms strengthen each other and create a visually powerful artwork.
