Stützpunkt Teufelsberg, Berlin, Germany

Procession (interiors) is a series of hanging multi-layered fabric houses installed within the exposed interior of an abandoned room on the second floor of the brutalist concrete gallery space of Stützpunkt Teufelsberg. This piece was developed in large part due to the artist’s interest in the shifting psychological reactions to being alone during COVID-19, and further inspired by the site of Teufelsberg, which is located within the remains of a Cold War-era American spy station, built on top of rubble from World War 2, and crushing down onto the remains of an unfinished Nazi military college. Imbeau’s interest in place-making, layers of meaning and creating spaces of retreat (interiors) while asserting presence (procession) is, through this site-specific installation, engaged in dialogue with the multi-layered history and oddly playful present of this storied site.
Creation of this installation was supported by Stiftung Kunstfonds NEUSTART KULTUR.
